Class etiquette & guidelines
Familiarising yourself with our policies and codes of conduct can help us ensure a more harmonious and productive learning environment that is respectful and enjoyable for both students and instructors. We thank you for your participation.
GUIDLINES FOR ALL CLASSES
Timing: Life is full, but we really appreciate your attempt to arrive a few minutes early to ensure you're ready to start when the class begins.
Studio hygiene: No street shoes are to be worn in the studio. Dance shoes or heels that have been approved for certain embodiment or burlesque classes are okay. We do lots of floor work in various classes so this guideline helps keep our hall clean for you to enjoy
Be Kind: SULT is an inclusive environment, bullying or harassment will not be tolerated. Please be kind and compassionate to each other, and our teachers. We request that we leave politics at the door and focus on sharing our commonalities; as there are so many.
Inclusivity: SULT invites all people on all stages of their walk and on any of life’s many spectrums.
Phones: Please silence your phones during class to minimize distractions
Privacy: Please do not photo of video other students without their knowledge or consent.
Advertising: SULT instructors may film or photograph during class and this may be used for advertising or social meadia. If you do not want yourself or family member to be filmed it is important to share that in your enrolment form preferences.
Food : Please avoid eating or chewing gum in the studio at any time.
Hydration : We are off grid and so please bring water for your class as at times we may have a limited supply of drinking water available.
Tread Lightly: Please respect our studio and grounds by picking up after yourselves, being careful with our property, equipment, costume and grounds
Feedback: Constructive feedback is always appreciated but should always be provided in a respectful and supportive manner. If you have concerns or suggestions, discuss them with the instructor privately rather than in front of the class.
Be Supportive: Encourage and support your fellow dancers. The dance community is often a close-knit one, and being positive and supportive can create a more enjoyable learning environment.
Stay Safe: Always make injuries aware to your teacher, adhere to safety guidelines and always listen to your body to prevent injuries.
Waiting areas : SULT is on private grounds please respect the people living on this property by being quiet and keeping to designated areas. Please keep young sibling mindful of this.
Dog-Free Zone: This is a shared space with children, wildlife and pets, for this reason we ask you to please keep your fur babies at home.
Wellness: We believe that dance is a way to healing the body and mind; however, movement alone can not replace the role of formal counselling and professional guidance. If you are in need, please seek guidance, you can also reach out to our teachers and we can try and help you find the support you may need.
EXTRA GUIDELINES FOR YOUTH PROGRAM
Dress Code: Please ensure a degree of modesty by providing under pants, shorts or leggings or other appropriate attire to help us maintain a safe and respectful environment for your children to express themselves in. It is important for adults responsible for children to make sure they are dressed in a manner that is suitable for their environment and occasion.
A kids zone: Our aim is for Kids to engage in our youth program as a drop of services. We can work with families to achieve this goal gently but ultimately the aim is to hold class without parents present.
Trust : Please trust our dance teachers to manage their class. If you have a question or comment, feel free to talk to the teacher after class (not during). Please restrain from communicating with your child during class. If your child is being disruptive, or feeling unsettled please allow the teacher to make suggestions or corrections first. We will always come and get you if need be. Building a relationship takes time and needs adequate space to flourish.
Snacks and Hydration: Pack a healthy snack for your child if they have back-to-back classes. Avoid bringing messy or noisy snacks.
Toilet breaks : Please Ensure your child goes to the toilet before class to minimize disruptions or accidents.
